All of the above. The "effendi class" evacuated before the war, some ran in panic when the Haganah showed up instead of the promised Arab victory, some were thrown out in the course of the war. Once out, the Arab govts herded them to the UN refugee camps.Well, obviously they took the Pal refugees - they are still there. But you mean they refused to nationalize them, right? Yes, except Jordan, who granted citizenship, and whose citizens are now about 75% Palestinian. The others kept them in the camps, stateless.Seems pretty ridiculous if the UN has been supporting these Pal refugee camps for 50+ years. Saw on the news last night that something like 10% of the Lebanese population are these refugees that are in lawless city/camps, and the people have no chance for citizenship and cannot hold many types of jobs. What the hell type of system is THAT to support for 50 years?? Excellent question. To make matters worse, US taxpayers pay the largest share of the cost for UNWRA. And isn't it interesting, btw, that you never heard any of this reported before now.Or......we could offer each Pal refugee citizenship in the new Iraq! Ironically, Iraq in the 1950s was short of labor, and advertised good terms for any Arab who wanted to move into the country. But no Palestinian Arabs need apply, they weren't wanted. The Palestinians were to stew until the Jews paid for all. Meantime, the Israelis were absorbing the 130,000 Iraqi Jews who were chucked out of Iraq. You said yourself the Saudi "peace" plan is ridiculous because it attempts to dictate Israel's immigration policy. By the same token, Israel should not dictate WB immigration policy. Israel has never tried. Palestine is free to implement the "right of return" to Palestine. What Israel objects to is Palestine insisting on the "right of return" to Israel.
