I would add that the media, and sometimes the FDA, seem to forget the distinction between OTC and Rx-only drugs.

Perhaps,

more regulation by the AMA/CMA/etc to ensure that practicing doctors meet a minimum level of confidence;
and less foot dragging by the FDA;

would better serve the public.
