The prediction of some of those crises stirred enough concrete reactive steps that the crises were avoided. International assistance for birth control, for example by the International Planned Parenthood Association and all its hundred fold country branches played an important role and so did many governments giving assistance for population control to many poor countries.
We didn't stop the global population growth but we certainly slowed it. The right to life idiots are still fighting us.
Attention to the global oil shortage is producing the reaction of accelerated development of alternative sources, uranium, wind, clean coal, cellulosic ethanol(needs decades), tides, solar, and innumerable energy saving measures. Most of the discoveries of science these days are intended to save energy and incidentally avert the global energy crisis.
