<What was it about? Did he support the closing of a military installation or was it something else?>

MrL,
Those brain cells are long ago and far, far away-:)
He ( as did almost all politicians) wanted to keep bases in his district open which due to the military draw down were not necessary and already slated for closure. IE: pork for his reelection.
These funds could have been put to much better use like for training funds. Service men DIED due to reduced training/operating budgets.
I recall an interview with a senior Navy aviation admiral in Navy Times about that time after we had a Navy wide safety stand down due to a high # of training fatalities. He attributed it to reduced funds for training.
I also recall a fatality due to a steam leak which while the details elude me, I attribute to the same cause.
Not to single out Hunter, pol's of both stripes has gone to great lengths to maintain their bases to the detriment of the military. This just trips my trigger not only because of the BS he spewed on c-span but also because he was my rep and I actually committed voter fraud sometime in the 80's to vote for him. I need to stop before I start sounding like JDN.
Back to lurk.
