Personally, rather than "Do you think the West is weakening the Islamic world?" (whatever that is) I would have liked to have a question along the lines of "Do you think the Islamic world is weak, and if so why?" so that they would have had the oppotunity to take responsibility for their shortcomings rather than blame it on the mysterious all powerful outside forces....

I thought the question was fine as stated. Good survey questions don't aim for logical comparability or even mutually exclusive categories. They aim rather to tap into respondents sentiments as well as possible.

Since the Bush administration is clearly trying to divide Sunni from Shia in the ME these days, the only correction I would have made with the question was to make certain the referent was the Bush administration rather than the US.
