Yes the Taliban is still alive, that hardly gives us reason to want another one in addition to the current one. Also while they are "alive and kicking" they don't rule a country any more. As for the finances, opium will do just as well as the oil. Oil is much bigger then opium. And its not just a matter of finances. Its matter of threatening the existing supply. We don't care if they threaten the supply of opium, we do care about the supply of oil.
