I didn't think it was anti-American. I guess you could say it was "pro-Japanese" in that weird way people have of classifying things as "pro" which show any "good" side to an enemy. But (unfortunately) almost no "enemy" is all bad. Most human tribes take care of their young, love their mates, work hard to succeed- and when they go to war, go to war against people who have much in common with themselves. While it is important, for propaganda and efficient killing, to accentuate differences, and make "the enemy" completely evil, he never is.

A reverse of All's Quiet on the Western Front. First time I realized that the enemy was human when I read that book.
