If the Anbar province is any indication we should dismiss all this silly talk about the foreign terror cells taking over Iraq when we leave.

Anbar succeeded in banding together against Al Qaeda with a lot of American and Iraqi government aid. It tells you absolutely nothing about how the balance of forces would have shaped up with well funded Al Qaeda fighters taking advantage of tribal infighting, and willing to use the utmost brutality to silence their critics.

The Afghans didn't want the Taliban and Al Qaeda, especially the non-Pushtu Afghans who were treated horribly. But before 2001 they were under Taliban rule like it or not, except for about 10% held by the Northern Alliance.
