(Just like in Iraq --- which has *even longer borders* --- it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to 'line guys up on the borders' out there in the badlands.) But --- SINCE THAT ISN'T WHAT I PROPOSED --- (I said "blockade", not anything silly and unrealistic like 'line guys up in the desert', LOL!) And, *clearly*, forces (air, land, automated, etc.) can be re-deployed to shoot at anyone who crosses the Pak border and doesn't go through designated checkpoints. The Afghan government has ALREADY made suggestions and threats along these lines --- so I'm not suggesting ANYTHING NEW. This would amount to an ECONOMIC and MILITARY choke point on Pakistan --- and, since that is WHERE the Taliban are mostly sallying forth from, and where al Qaeda (and likely: bin Laden) have been granted sanctuary, and where the Taliban's sponsors/supporters/managers (Pakistan's militarized Intelligence Service, the I.S.I. ) are still in power in the government, and according to our C.I.A., still directing cross-border raids to destabilize the Afghan government, then that would seem to be ONLY A PRUDENT ACTION! That is... if one is *serious* about bin Laden and al Qaeda and the Taliban, and wants to have an EFFECTIVE CAMPAIGN against them, a *REAL* 'War on Terror', not a 'bumper sticker', or merely a *campaign talking point* to rally the 'party faithful' (& their campaign contributions :-)... which is where this discussion started today. Last point: if we hadn't let the I.S.I. field operatives, Pak military and Intelligence Generals, who were the Taliban's main backers, ESCAPE back to Pakistan in the great 'Airlift of Evil'... then perhaps we wouldn't STILL have this big problem in Pakistan's badlands, and cross-border in Afghanistan, today....
