(It's more then a little depressing that --- at this very late date --- people are STILL conflating the 'War on Terrorism' (al Qaeda, Whabbist preaching of matyrdom, etc.) with the occupation of Iraq.) Not the same things. Never were. "PBS just ran a documentary on Tony Blair's rise and fall...and it had a great story about his efforts to go get "Jack" on board with the Iraq adventure and Chirac made a number of points about the dangers awaiting in Iraq. Supposedly Blair left the meeting saying that Jack just "didn't get it", whereas now it is acknowledged that he got it exactly right as to the risks and perils of the Iraq invasion and the aftermath." Yes, I caught it. Quite interesting. Especially interesting was Blair's focus on Northern Ireland --- and the political bargain he struck with Clinton to induce Clinton to throw his weight behind a political peace process for northern Ireland.
