Dave,
I really have to wonder just how scary a monster this truly is..

Easy to find 40 billion US reserves for Canada as an example... fin.gc.ca

BUT if you look closely the real story is:
US dollars 19,982
Euro 17,937
Yen 498

Googling around gives all sorts of results expressed in USD... but how much is really USD as the Canadian example shows... That would be a good poser for Doug eh ?

Maybe it's like the cholesterol story ? Total cholesterol is less important than the ratio of HDL to LDL.. (good to bad)...

see pages like this link imf.org just say in USD...

Something to think about maybe ... It might be all USD but it could also be total reserves including Euros and gold expressed in the ubiquitous US greenback..
