Capitalism only invests in those things which will yield a profit in the reasonable future, which means they do little if any basic research. And, as a shareholder, I can certainly live with that. The government can go to The Moon and take heat about Velcro and Tang being the only things to come out of the trips. Government can also use its mass to squeeze a fair price out of the health care system. And which company could have afforded to build The Interstate Highway system?
