Thanks for sharing your memories. I visited the home when it was Synanon as I was planning to set up a similar program in a Federal Prison near Dallas. I also used to live just down the road in Venice from age 5 til 18 when off to college. I once saw Primo Carnera on the Venice to Ocean Park Board Walk. There was a giant! My favorite fighter as a teenage in L.A. was Art Aragon. He never quite made it as a champ but he was the Mexican equivalent of Sugar Ray Robinson in dash and style. Anybody remember the old Hollywood Legion Stadium and the Olympic Auditorium (still around, I think). Also Dr. Bernie Schwartz, the famous Olympic ring-side doc, was my second cousin. Quite a character. Did brief prison-time for shooting his first wife since he was a Bad shot--good doc.
