I've always thought that one of the great problems with Democracy as a concept is that the majority is, in fact, often wrong. A lot of people aren't capable of critical thought, and even those who are often don't care enough to bother.

I'd say that illustrates the enormous power of feedback systems. An openloop system must be much more accurate to achieve acceptable results. A feedback system can be quite inaccurate, but achieve good results. BTW, this is very well known to any electrical engineer who looks at the history of analog design. The bulk of the design methods for amplifiers (pretty much ANY type of analog amplifier) is about wrapping a feedback system around a very poor device. The result is music to your ears!

So even if most the people are wrong (IMO like starting the war in Iraq), eventually, they reverse direction and correct.
