The early and untimely death of the customer base was always a challenge to the tobacco sales. The tobacco business knew this, and attracted the best sales talent of the day to get new customers addicted to tobacco and thus make new sales. I can only imagine that the use of blue asbestos as a filter material was a perverse way the tobacco industry could rebel against the growing scientific awareness that some things were bad for your health. However, it could use it's political influence and technological might to continue to boost the sale of blue asbestos AND tobacco. In the same way, the repub right wing global warming deniers, show EXACTLY the same CHARACTERISTICS with the use of DDT and DU. In the face of MOUNTAINS of MODERN SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE they continue to defy the established facts that these substances are harmful to people and the environment. Intelligence could be used. Chrysotile asbestos is a superior material without many of the safety problems of blue and brown asbestos. If these facts were used properly the asbestos problem would not of grown to the massive international legal and health problem we have today. People were deliberately lied to and have had premature slow painful deaths as a result. DDT is safe to use following modern knowledge and procedure. It is NOT SAFE to plaster all over the environment without due regard to it's toxic properties and without regard to the target insects developing resistance to overuse. This is simple common sense yet you (and the other repub global warming denying, brain dead knuckleheads on this board continue to spout) repeatedly infer it should be thrown about in uncontrolled amounts as it is completely "safe". DU is safe to use as a SEALED SOURCE. i.e contained inside of some other material and unlikely to be fractured into particles. It has excellent properties as a sealed source. Both blue asbestos fibers and DU radiations can be stopped by a single layer of cigarette paper. Inside the lungs as small particles they are a DEADLY SAFETY HAZARD. When are you irresponsible loonies going to accept the modern facts and knowledge, even though sales of a particular health hazard material may drop? Get with it. We are not in the 1950's and 1960's now. opps, I think some of the repubs on this board are still in the last century some place -g-
