Great post...not only that but let us not forget how much money the middle men are making.

Think Insurance, this animal called Managed Care.

Doctors do not make the money, administrators, lawyers, executives, you name it, everyone but the doctor.

That is medicine in America today.

If must change. I know, I was a recruiter in the managed care industry for many a year.

Very true, and the #1 reason C-sections are performed in the USA at 4x (?) the rate as in western Europe. It's hard to defend yourself when your action was "inaction" e.g. even though medically it is usually the best choice in that case.

The hospital doesn't mind though. It adds thousands, or maybe tens of thousands? of dollars to the bill.
