I can't agree with you.

To me it doesn't matter if the government can make cuts to the programs, raise taxes, or print money to solve potential problems in the future. It doesn't even matter that we can't account for the liabilities very accurately (that's true of lots of things in accounting, like depreciation for example).

Anything that gives people a sense that the promises being made now may require draconian actions later could prompt some people to get angry enough to force changes to those promises now so that less draconian things have to be done later.

Also, having a sense that both plans will eventually get cut, my taxes will eventually rise, and inflation could be a problem in the future when I am old allows me to plan now for the irresponsibility of politicians now. (and I do)
