I'd imagine commercial beekeepers are already doing
their own experiments to determine the most economic
scheme. If the weakest colonies collapse, that may
very well weed out hives that have been exposed to
toxins AND been malnourished AND have parasites.

The point being, there is often a knee jerk reaction--
you see people going after GMO crops a lot for instance,
and you pointed to the bees and Bt in that url...

We know that people are already all over the cheap corn
syrup thing (even some soda pop producers are playing up
that cane sugar is more healthy--I think it is Jones Soda
in Seattle that is all cane sugar). Well that is fine,
but I wouldn't expect such huge differences unless you
point to people who eat only processed foods and drink only
corn syrup cola etc etc. Same for the bees.

I'm very wary of the new Gaia_Global_Warming_Organic_NO-GMO
religion that is taking hold. Mostly it does no harm to
subscribe to it--but you have to be smart, and there are
plenty of folks who rush in without thinking. For example,
you have a choice of buying "fresh vegetables" that are
organic OR buying frozen vegetables. Which do you buy?

Well, in many cases chopped frozen veggies will actually
have more nutrition preserved than something that has been
sitting out in the air two weeks from field to grocer. And
the frozen stuff may never have been treated with pesticides
(don't be surprised to find a few bugs frozen in there).

Anyway, there is a lot of dogma being circulated. Watch
for it. I have another good example. One of my poker buddies
completely controls his diet, he has a transfat obsession.
But he only eats processed lunchmeat at lunch. I don't
think I have ever seen him snack on a carrot or bite into
an apple. He would do well to worry less about trans fats
and eat an salad once a day--with lots of olive oil on it.
I mentioned that once--he said the only vegetable he eats
is lettuce, which you and I both know is just water, useless.
