Wayne, yes, you can move individual securities to the cash account.

What you can do is get the securities delivered to you in your name. Then, redeposit them at a brokerage firm as a custodian without signing them over to Street name. However, you'd better be a darned good customer of that firm, because they are effectively providing custodian services for free and somebody will ask, "what has this guy done other than cost us money?"

Also, local branches don't hold the securities. So, if you ever want to sell them, it's going to require courier services and your signature.
