Jim, I still hold out the possibility that a solution may be found to counter the downsides of BPL through some, probably-exotic, means, although aside from a few prayer-like whispers coming out of a lab every now and then, no one has quite stepped up to the challenge and offered empirical evidence of having done so. If they had, we'd know about it. While there are some rural communities that have made claims of jumping into the BPL promise with both feet, sometimes boasting tens of thousands of live network participants (beyond trial phases), little if anything comes out of them to suggest that the technology has been vindicated either technologically, or as a business model, in any way. How could one help but to step back and marvel at the multi-hundred million dollar grade investments being made in this space? If ever my earlier misgivings about the viability of this technology are proved wrong, then I'd be the first to acknowledge such an outcome, and I'll probably feel better about it in a number of different ways.
