Re: "As I've pointed out before the overall facts of Dunkirk is without dispute. British ships and boats, lifted British (and French) soldiers off the coast of France."

Don't forget these other salient facts:

Hitler ORDERING Rommel to not close with his Panzers and cut the Brits off from the beaches --- finishing the encirclement. (Something Rommel *pleaded* for permission to do over the ensuing two week period....)

There would have been what? 150,000, 200,000 British solders in Nazi prison-of-war camps had Hitler not ordered Rommel to not close the circle.

(Hitler evidently believed that his show of 'forebearance' would entice Churchill to a negotiated peace in Europe. Possibly Bush was thinking something similar when he allowed Pakistan to withdraw it's commanders, and their Taliban allies, from the encirclement at Kunduz... fighters who, just the *day before* were shooting at our forces. Possibly he believed that this show of 'forebearance' would gain the US some favor in Pakistan... cause them to reconsider their strategic policies supporting the Taliban/Pushtun....)

If so, I believe the hope to be as miscalculated as Hitler's was at Dunkirk.
