I was out in Idaho a while back in the summer. I was just on the western side of the Tetons in a valley near Driggs and the lightning I saw was amazing! These were some of the most powerful bolts I've ever seen. I'm sure the sound was because we were in a valley but the thunder was like hearing explosions. Around here we get some really loud rumblers but the only time I've heard explosive lightning in these parts are when a transformer gets hit. Now thats one hell of a bang! I saw one get hit and there was this blue-ish glow for a split second and then BOOM! It was only about a block from our home and the only reason I saw it was because I was on 3rd floor looking out the window - it was a legit explosion and the round transformer started on fire. I was surprised it didn't blow up my computers. One second the lights were on in my house and the street lamps lit up my neighborhood and the next second it went black for as far as I could see.
