"don't think I ever said that having religious faith was necessary to have morals. However, what I find interesting is that the morals you claim are merely "common sense" actually, in many cases, are values that were initially teachings by various religions around the world."

I have no conflict with that statement, but religion would have you believe that some guy went up on a mountain and talked to God who gave him a stone tablet engraved with the 10 commandments...up until that time humans had no morals....

And you also said,"I think religion has had a lot of influence on beliefs, morals and behavior - NOT ALL OF IT GOOD I MIGHT ADD."

Religion has a had a huge influence on human behavior usually through fear....ie a "God fearing man". If you don't behave, you'll go to "hell".

"Aren't you doing the same thing when you say atheists are more moral than any religious group? How did you get so smart?"

Atheists, by definition, have to be thinking people as opposed to the believers... I react to the religious who often suggest that religion is the necessary foundation of good morals... And yes, than is my opinion.

". I haven't seen the multiple choice questionnaire that shows most people who believe or have faith selected the "Just in case" answer. Can I prove there's a God? No. Do I claim to know the truth? No. DO I have all the answers? No."

Then talk to them and find out.....I have many times and a such a statement often comes in a conversation where the analogy, "there are no atheists in foxhole" is used. And I don't know anyone who can prove the existence or denial of a god. So from a profound point of view, I am not atheistic but rather agnostic on the subject. I am atheistic with regard to the standard beliefs expressed in these threads.

"OTOH I've seen ZERO evidence that can conclusively prove we all grew out of some pit of primordial stew. So if science can't offer up 100% proof why is faith any less reasonable than a scientific guesstimate? The only fair answer to that question is "it's not."

That's incredible....you demand 100% proof from science but will not subject a single religious belief to the same conditions..... The primordial stew line is old.... Probably the best evidence for evolution is found in DNA. Recent studies of DNA from chimpanzees and humans show about 99% identical sequencing. And as I recall, the difference between a mouse and a human is that a mouse has about 300 fewer genes.

"eternal heater"

Oh yes, I picked up on your funny....

You say there are eye witness accounts of Satan, Angels, and human gods in the bible? Know of anything more recent and reliable than that? Science can't disprove them, but reason can.....

"You need 100% proof of evolution?" You mean you don't accept evolutionary facts that are already proven? What would constitute 100% to you?

"Science requires proof where religion requires faith. Since we don't have 100% proof in either case who is to say which is right? I certainly don't have the answer."

Once again, you require proof for science but don't expect the same thing from religion....that's not reason.

"So you tell me....am I a religious zealot or am I an Atheist?"

I don't think you're a zealot, but your reservations about evolution do leave questions. You do believe in a god...you said so in your first reply.

"such a charged reply"

Sorry, but the renewed attack on evolution in the last few years by the Christian Right bugs me big time. And I believe I heard a recent survey that said 40% of Americans do not accept evolution......now that is scary.... This is the 21st Century!!
And until the believers can show one shred of credible evidence for the existence of a god, much less a human god who rose from the dead.....I will not allow for an alternative...
