I'm simply suggesting somewhat similar responses to the perceived immorality of women. I look for cross cultural similarities- and I usually find them. There is a certain equivalency in highly patriarchal societies in terms of the way punishment is meted our for female infidelity. The methods may differ, but the general tenor of the way the crime is treated is usually the same. Female infidelity is quite threatening to society, as male investment in providing for women, and the children those women have, is conditioned on males knowing, or at least strongly believing, that the children they father are their own children.

I suspect that some of what we see in America, in terms of fathers abandoning their children, especially in the inner cities, may come down to a biological problem- the level of distrust (subconscious distrust) on the part of males wrt female fidelity may just get too high for males to feel any investment in putative offspring. I don't think enough attention is paid to biological roots of societal problems.
