As far as I know (maybe you will correct me) the only animals that create music are human beings, whales, and some birds (you could include crickets and cicadas at a stretch). We tend to seek functional explanations for all animal behaviour, but the function of the musical sounds created by whales and birds is unclear. The morning chorus, for example, what is that all about? The most obvious thing you can say is that there is beauty there.

you are most fortunate LC. I will have to check out the writings of Pierre Bourdieu & to read how it is applicable to myself.
my cultural being/ awareness was on hiatus for 50 years...unknownst to me...just too suppressed. I discovered for myself classical music in eastern Europe & started out liking Mozart & Brahms. somehow, more things in life made much more sense. the beer tasted better, the food tasted better, the women looked better and actually they seemed much nicer. now I like Chopin alot, also DeBussey, Rachmaninov, Vivaldi, & Albeniz. I think my life will really improve tremendously this now. I guess I'll have to get some big cultural awareness bucks together to better understand the world.
it would be my crappy luck if & when I figure out life's scheme of things, I die.
