Snow, Taiwan is our [New Zealand Maori] homeland from long ago, prior to Polynesians setting sail out across the Pacific Ocean in the world's most daring and successful sea-borne migration [Mayflower and Christopher Columbus were much later].

TJ should not be surprised when we defend our ancestral lands against the depredations of invaders who have no business there.

I think that USA, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Singapore, Philippines, and probably Europe will also express their displeasure to a greater or lesser extent.

China is being cunning and trying to buy off naive Polynesians who haven't thought through the implications of China's activities. China is planning to rule the Pacific Ocean, and a lot more besides. So far, they have not been militaristic about it, but they are not shy about rattling their sabres. One would think they would see what happened to Japan and Germany after their vicious expansionary militarism and be a bit more polite.

Britain and Maoris and other Polynesians formed voluntary alliances centuries ago, to mutual benefit. Not all was hunky dory at all times as Britain was militaristic about their empire at times, as was the standard of the times. Britain was highly successful because they were more mercantile than militaristic in their expansion, offering full citizenship to British subjects.

China hasn't even got to Taiwan and are talking mass murder to have their way.

That photo you showed has got a very Polynesian aspect to his visage.
