Gore beat Bush in 2000. He got more votes. And if the same election were held today Gore would win by a huge landslide.

If people hd known what Bush-Cheney were really all about in 2000 instead of all their bait-and-switch campaign lies and phony promises they would have done worse than Bob Dole did.
The rightwing is only about 25% of the country. The GOP needs to turn on 26% more to win and they don't have a chance this time around.

I predict democrats will win by 10% next year. The reason is simple. After Iraq, Katrina, Terri Schiavo, and all the rightwing lying and corruption, voters are fed up. The GOP base will still show up, though some of them grudgingly, but very few independents or conservsative democrats will vote GOP. Very few Hispanics will vote GOP. Fewer women and military people will vote GOP. Libertarians will stay away.

Since 2004, polls have shown a more than 10% rise in voters identifying themselves as democrats, while GOP voter identification has plunged. The GOP rebellion is on the moderate and libertarian ends. Democrats will be united in 2008, though we will always debate and bicker between left and center.
