This is the first year I've given to the athletic fund. For the past 20+ years, I've been giving continuously to the College of Engineering and VT Alum. Assoc. scholarship funds. That's where I'll always give the bulk of my money. I thought it might be nice to get season tickets, but I'll probably reassess. It would be a heckuva lot cheaper to just pay what I have to on ebay to tickets to the game(s) I want.

>>none of that money will find it's way to athletics, only academics. Seems kinda upside-down to me.<<

But isn't sports the most profitable business of big educational institutions like VaTech? Well, maybe only two sports. If not, why does the football coach and his staff get paid so much more than the president and faculty at most big football schools?

Of course the players and students are mere pawns in the game.

Seems like a great subject for an hour with Bob Costas or Bryant Gumbel. Then agin, the NCAA college presidents consider such matters beyond the comprehension of mere mortals and student-players.

Please do not reply. My questents are rhetorical.
