Most of the homeschooling materials are very big on rote work. And there isn't anything wrong with that. In fact, a certain amount of it is needed. But, incorporating that into the bigger picture is where a lot of the materials break down.


I agree that there is a lot of rote memorization involved esp. when it comes to being a good speller. That's why I think you have to be self motivated to be good.....with the notable exception of Z who apparently is a genius and has a photographic mind and appears to be toying with us.
