As a pre-teen I'd already built crystal radio sets out of everyday items such as pencil leads; razor blades; safety pins; salvaged motor winding wire; etc., and learned the principles of ac to dc rectification, thanks to my having a patient father. Since then I've wondered at times about electromagnetic spectra in free space and rays bombarding Earth from outer space someday being harnessed in ways similar to those discussed in the nano articles. Well, maybe not e-x-a-c-t-l-y, but along similar lines ;)
