"Intended meaning is that we pass ourselves off as being altruistic even when our motives are not altruistic. For example the war in Iraq." As we are able to distinguish ourselves as champions of human justice and autonomy, opposing oppressive brutality ... vs terrorists willing to brutally torture and kill innocents toward advancing their goals ... we have support from all sectors of humanity. As we are viewed as advancing our self interests we are opposed. At this point there is some doubt about whether America places its national interests as a global force above its principles of human liberty. It is in everyone's interests who hopes to defeat terrorism that we act on good intention and are viewed as having the best of intentions.
