Lanai is a great place to do that in my opinion.
It is kinda useless as a tourist island, although I've sailed there quite a few times from Maui. (Day trips)
Lanai is famous for growing pineapples, as it has large, rather stark areas suitable for that, and it doesn't have the beaches and tourism attraction. It's kinda the "uncle in the attic" Hawaiian island. It is close to Maui (hubba hubba), so I suppose they could transmit the power rather efficiently to Maui.
Wharfy knows much more about the transmission costs of sending power 9 miles via seabed lines.
