Doesn't work with it at all. The S-3 utilizes cable cards as tuners which DirecTV doesn't use. To use the S03 with cable you need to install the cable cards -- otherwise it will not work with cable either. Fortunately the FCC mandated the cable companies to rent cable cards.

If you read spec on the S3, its says will only work with cable. Recall reading article that stated this. But see avsforum.com for a discussion on this issue.

I'm a DirecTV customer. I'm hoping by the time the term of myy 2-yr agreement with their current POS HR20 HD DVR is up, DirecTV will have cut a deal with TiVo & made available an MPEG4 HD DVR compatible with DBS HD feeds.
