Werner,

What's the aim of the Intel/STM Deal? IIrc they plan an IPO later this year. Soon their NOR products won't be competitive against MirrorBit anymore and all they have are some patents for phase change. I expect them to make a big hype out of their future phase change developments in order to manage the IPO.

I think you are right. I was a little surprised to hear very little about phase change during the CCs announcing JV.

One thing though, Intel and STM retainted IP for phase change, so if phase change does materialize, it could mean competition from STM and Intel, mainly Intel. NewCo alone would not be that dangerous, because of limited production capacity, and lack of money for fast ramp.

BTW, Newco will likely be showing investors somewhat dismal financials, so they will need all the hype they can get...

I cannot calculate how long they need to originate a competitive product. However, in the meantime the SPSN stock should exceed the book value for a while...

Yup. Current valuation is very low. A solid move in direction of profitability would help a lot...

Joe

Werner, Welcome to the thread!

Just to add that phase change competition for Spansion should first come from Samsung because they are further ahead with this technology and have the money to make it a success.

This is btw one of the reasons why I don't think that Samsung will ever buy Spansion (besides them competing with Spansion's biggest customers).

For the longer term I actually think Samsung has moved to the front as competitor #1 for Spansion even though they're using Spansion flash currently.

Regards,

Rink
