The problem is really quite simple. You have a country who values freedom, civil rights, and the lives of it's people, and it went to war with a group that values a specific religious view, but places little or no value on freedom, civil rights, and the lives of the people it uses to fight with, and you expect to fight it on your terms. You cannot win on your terms, you cannot even get a stalemate on your terms. First you need to accept that premise. If you can accept that this war needs to be fought by Rambo, or squads of men like him, not by the national guard. The war needs to be taken to the Iranians at the iraqi Border. No Iranian fighter should survive. The clerics leading this need to be killed, kill a couple and tell the rest they are next, see how fast you get peace overtures. But you have to make the terrorists blood flow like water, take no prisoners in battle, they will surrender. You cannot make war, while being pleasant farmers from Oklahoma, you have to become Killers, that should have been in the handbook, make war not friends, friends comes after the abject surrender, not before.
