That is not the "old" Japanese flag.
That is the navy version.

Most "old" countries I know of had a special navy version of their flag. That includes Sweden with the flag side opposite the pole cut up in 3 splits and the Danish "Dannebrog" with its two splits (only, he he).

Not really. The confederacy was never really a separate country. And the association between the confederate flag and slavery is very strong. Like it or not.
