I must have missed Coulter's column....but I can understand the sentiments of those who are frsutrated with the failure to secure the border, enforce existing laws and the cost that illegals impose on all of us in terms of healthcare costs, unpaid taxes, etc...

<< "I have yet to see anyone here articulate a better plan than to work out a bipartisan compromise bill. It is the nature of compromise solutions that they leave no one completely satisfied, but the alternative is to do nothing and sit back and rant and whine about a problem that isn't going away." >>

I'd have few objections to the current bill if I knew with certainty that we would actually get serious border protection, a dramatic drop in the number of illegal aliens, little or no preferential treatment to any current illegals already here & serious consequences to those who remain here in violation of the laws on the books. And by serious consequences I mean they should be so severe that they act as a strong impediment to stem the current flood of illegal immigrants to a tiny trickle & encourages those here illegally already to get the hell out of the US NOW.

But somehow I think that those who oppose the current bill fear that it too will end up being an unmitigated disaster far worse than the last one because of pathetic enforcement, special interests & politics as usual from both sides of the isle. And so far there has been little reason for anyone to begin to think that it will be different this time.
