No. You'd be "less screwed" if you voted for conscientious candidates, instead of the canned politicians who throw out 'hot button' pat lines which political analysis shows to work. This is especially convenient if half the people aren't voting in a presidential election; two-thirds of the people aren't voting in a state election and 80 percent aren't voting in municipal elections.

And, believe me, the drug war and the Paris Hilton freaks (i.e., the dumming of television news) help to keep those voting numbers down, thus making it easier to manipulate those who do vote.

End result?

You only need one vote more than half of the above figures in order to win. Throw in some big oil or pharmaceutical money behind your pat lines (which are talking points handed down from high above, based on political analysis and polling) and you, the candidate, wins ... while we, the people, lose!
