There are good arguments that a 45 day sentence was particularly harsh and inappropriate.

But, what the Judge clearly wanted to do was get this woman's attention. As you note, she showed a blatant disregard for the law. The Judge obviously felt nothing short of a stiff jail sentence was going to get through to her.

The Sheriff didn't do her any favors (1) by releasing her to home detention on his own say-so, and (2) unilaterally deciding she could appear at the hearing this morning by telephone.

If Sheriff felt there were valid medical reasons for home release, he should have filed a motion with the Court.

At this point, Paris is pretty much a pawn in the bigger dispute between the Judge and Sheriff.

Speaking of Fox, did you catch Shepard Smith's show? It was amusing, with Smith ringing his bell periodically and going on and on. He got Greta on the line, as well as Geraldo. It was hysterical.
