The concept is still in development and the website is not public yet. But I'd value your opinions about the concept as exposed on the preliminary website: wimaxconverge.com The term 4G is used loosely to describe WBB that is capable of 'always connected' wide area BB coverage. Seamless WiFi is part of this vision. On element of Green4G is that as WBB develops into personal broadband, it closes the gap of connectivity needed to promote higher degrees of telecommuting and development of localized services that can reduce routine travel. Studies show relatively low acceptance of telecommuting despite proven gains in productivity, lower stress, higher employee satisfaction and lower costs. A major reason is a perceived and real gap in communications. Employees perceive a disadvantage for promotions and worker interaction. Some managers perceive a lack of communication with employees. WiMAX and other forms of WBB can help bridge the gap with always connected broadband communications. Education and government support including tax incentives or carbon tax offsets can help increase telecommuting, remote learning, field services and other organization of resources that reduce dependence on travel. Long term goals are no less than to reform society around information flows rather than building location and artificial location of employees. This generally fits stated goals for business and government organization such as Business 2.0/Government 2.0. As with studies on telecommuting, a major gap in implementation of these programs fails at the connection to the individual information worker and manager. Obviously a lot of work still needs to be done to get this concept to fly.
