Is it honest to keep your mouth shut? I have always thought concealing your thoughts of others is a kind of dishonesty, but I think it's a very self preservative kind. I do not think humans like the truth very much, when they find it disagreeable - so telling the truth can be hazardous. I think most of us make calculations about how honest to be- we weigh the risks and benefits, and we are as honest as we think benefits us, or we are honest when there is no risk to us posed in being honest. I think much of the strange behavior we see on the net is honesty unleashed- people letting out their moment to moment feelings, and being completely honest, in the moment- since they don't see any downside to doing so. Such "honesty" in 3d probably wouldn't work out so well, so most people don't do it there.

Some people are honest against their best interests- and those people are generally held up as heroes, but you could just as easily say they aren't very well adapted people, if they end up being destroyed by the truths they tell.
