OH so sorry to hear your friend passed PatiBob. I can really relate to that as my dear, dear widower neighbor passed just last month and I miss him too. He was the most helpful neighbor. We could always count on him to help jump start a car, or trade seedlings or fruits and vegetables. Or just to stop and have a talk. He was always so concerned about the neighborhood and kept an eye out. He was the son of a farmer and just loved his yard. You would always see him out tending the yard even when he got so old (he was 87) and could hardly walk his feet hurt so bad. His wife died in '03 and he missed her so much, but he had 4 daughters close by. I think Jack had 5 or 6 great grandkids too. After Irene died he got to go back home and see the old place and visit with his many sisters and brothers. So glad he could make that trip. He was a WW2 navy vet and talked about the war some times too.

His youngest daughter found him dead out in the vegetable garden. He'd been roto tilling and I guess he just collapsed. We are all glad that if he had to go it was doing what he loved best.

He was a great addition to our neighborhood when he moved in in '85 and will be sorely missed.

His darling house is for sale now, and I don't know if anyone can move in and keep that yard as nice looking as he did.
