I too, would have liked to see Carter charge ahead at that time and show the Iranians that they couldn't screw around with the U.S., but with age I'm not so sure that what he did didn't require more courage than the alternative.

I've had the same thoughts. But, I'd want any President to respond forcefully to a provocation like that. Carter's response was unacceptable. His squeamish wimpishness may have emboldened radical Islamics and begun what we face today.

Carter's a great ex-President. He'd make a fine minister. But, he was a really lousy President. Not as bad as the current one, but REALLY bad. So bad, I didn't bother to vote when he ran against Reagan.
