It makes sense since you would be naked short calls after the long calls expire, perhaps worthless, in effect potentially being short all those shares without the funds to satisfy the short. I would not write calls on a full position unless there was lots of conviction of a direction in the market or security. Since most folks are long biased, I would think that writing short-dated calls on a portion of the position might work out best. BTW, thanks for that cash covered puts information I never knew about. StreetSmartPro is an excellent tool for option strategies if you can get it from Schwab. I would encourage you to use it.
