In your zeal to argue with me, you have assumed erroneously that I "oppose such a simple and logical measure." The major shortcoming of your "use existing laws/systems" solution is that it does nothing to enable employers to instantly verify the work eligibility of job applicants. Yours is a catch-them-after-they-hire system that requires indiscriminate data mining of millions upon millions of employer and taxpayer records, and entangles honest as well as dishonest employers. Mine, or rather Kyl et al's, is designed to prevent hiring of illegals by making it easy for employers to determine work eligibility. But it doesn't entangle honest employers in criminal investigations because of clerical errors. It also does NOT preclude using technology (as well as existing measures, which obviously work on occasion) to try to catch the systematic cheaters.

So to borrow your words, I fail to see why anyone concerned about this problem would oppose such a simple and logical measure.
