they keep selling the same 250 tons to each other.......and that makes it looks as if central banks everywhere can't wait to dump the worthless rock.

Push the rationale further:
when the CBs of the Woild will have "diversified" their reserves (read sold gold: gold isn't needed as in CB bookkeeping the holdings of gold are "in value of"), gold will be customized and loose their role as "reserve" (there aren't gold presses yet, and no government or CB likes gold).
Gold becomes a base metal as any other with ivestors holding the bag. Secular trend? Confiscation of wealth every 100 years?

Many studies show that a high rate of personal savings comes in sync with business depressions (chcken and egg question, what causes what?). It wouldn't suprise me a bit thatprudent savers would be accused to be unpatriotic in the next years, or criminals.
The trend I see in the World is: more subventions, more social benefits, more wages for top management -state or private- and
less wealth for the middle class (media sez: darn savers) or lower income (media sez: must be happy to get food stamps, those lazy don't work).

Baaah! Am in a bad mood. Currently on dd for my port and unable to croos control some stats: all are coocked.
