I understand your argument, but "doing jobs Americans just won't do" is not my issue.

I think we have more jobs to fill than we have Americans. Especially in the service industries.

Home Depot and Target (and other companies I'm sure) are not getting enough applicants to fill positions. Maybe it is because people are going for higher paying jobs......which certainly exist in the mkt place, and good for them......but there is still a gap.

How much should Target pay a checker? Would $20 per hour flood their employment division with applicants? Maybe? But then they will be uncompetitive and buyers will go elsewhere for their goods, and Target will go out of business laying off thousands of high paid employees.

And why shouldn't an employer pay what the market will bear? If a guy is willing to hang sheet rock for $12 hr and do it as well as the guy that wants $20 hr, why should the employer pay $20? Legal or illegal the guy asking $12 is still going to ask $12.

It is simply a case of trade, supply and demand, and very in line with a capitalistic America.

I would really be interested to know what you think the minimum wage should be and why.
