Re: I take it that when you speak of Belgians you mostly are speaking of the Bruxellois.

Wrong, I'm mostly hinting at the Walloons, if only because of the demographic breakdown: one million Bruxellois vs three million Walloons.... Besides, because of its essentially urban character, the Brussels middle class is made up of self-reliant shopkeepers, restaurateurs, professionals (lawyers, dentists, doctors,...) who rely on a large urban clientele instead of state subsidies/pork barrel to make a living.... No EU farm subsidies for Brussels.... At the same time, the Brussels bourgeoisie is strongly Belgicaine (pro-Belgium) because of its feeling of Flemish beleaguerment. Also, there's a peculiar Brussels congenialness that, somehow, lulls the Bruxellois into a deceptive linguistic truce....

Re: Is Bruxelles nearly all French...few Flemish? It sure seemed that way when I was there.

Fairly speaking, Brussels is 90% Francophone and 10% Dutch.
