The US media is generally not censored by the government, so it's quite free compared to media in places like China and Iran.

Of course this "freedom of the press" does not equate to accuracy: there's plenty of distortion, omission, hype, and spin in the US media. But the information freedom does give us a chance to obtain news and info from a variety of sources (including uncensored blogs, wikipedia, google, etc) and compare them for a better picture.
