city-state civilization, only this time corporate

We don't have to participate. I have friends out in Idaho who are attempting to live a village centered life based on local agriculture. When they invited me out there, I told them no. What they want to do is turn their backs entirely and create their own little parallel civilization. My thought at the time was we are moderns and must live in the society we're born in. Haven't checked with them lately, have no idea how they're making out. It wasn't too appealing then, but if they're gonna be considered dangerous, I might rethink that. <g>

Come to think of it, we don't need to go to extremes to opt out. Buy from co-ops and farmer's markets whenever possible and buy local and regional whenever possible.

Might make a dent, or at least cramp the style of those who worship efficiency...
